What is a Wallet?

How to Create a Base Wallet

A simple guide to getting set up on Base — the Coinbase-backed Ethereum Layer 2.

🤔 What Is a Crypto Wallet?

A crypto wallet is your identity and bank account on the blockchain. It lets you: 🪙 Hold crypto (ETH, tokens) and NFTs ✍️ Sign transactions (mint, vote, buy, sell) 🔐 Prove ownership of your assets 🌐 Connect to apps like Lore, OpenSea, Uniswap

Your wallet has two key parts: Public address — Like your email address. Share it freely. It's what people send things to. Looks like: 0x742d35Cc6634C0532925a3b844Bc9e7595f0bEb1 Private key / Seed phrase — Like your password, but you can never reset it. Never share this with anyone, ever.

🔑 How Wallets Work (Quick Version)

Wallets don't actually "store" your crypto. Your assets live on the blockchain. Your wallet stores the keys that prove the assets belong to you.

You → Wallet → Signs transaction → Sends to blockchain → Blockchain updates

If you lose your seed phrase, you lose access to your assets — permanently. No customer service can recover it. This is the trade-off for true ownership.

✅ You're Ready

Once you've got: ✅ A wallet installed ✅ Your seed phrase safely written down ✅ Base network added ✅ A small amount of ETH on Base

You're set to mint, vote, and participate in Lore.
